Revisited and Me

I taught home economics and textiles in secondary schools both in NSW and Tasmania for many years. As well I have had interesting and rewarding positions in health promotions since moving to Tasmania.

Although my professional life was fulfilling I have always “needed” to create.
Create by “Revisiting” garments; wool; yarns; buttons and working with vintage doilies kept me out of mischief or actually it is a delicious mischief.

After many years “creating”, I have finally come to terms with and am able to accept and call myself a textile artist.

I was a member of a Salamanca gallery for 8 years, where my work on display involved “Revisiting” vintage and new buttons to create unique jewellery. I love working with buttons as well as playing with them and sorting them into colours. Memories of playing with grandmothers button tin on a rainy afternoon.

I expanded my creating to “Revisiting” vintage crocheted doilies, to create unique jewellery. The doilies are carefully cut out, painted or hand dyed, hardened and sealed. The process is time consuming and slow but the three dimensional affect is worth it. I turn the vintage doileys into interesting and unique earrings; single; triple or multi doiley necklaces.

After many years as a member of a Salamanca gallery I needed more room and a different outlet for my expanding creative textile interests. I made a bold move and applied to the HCC to purchase a site at the well-known Salamanca market. After a lot of work with my application I was accepted. I purchased a site and started early “Revisited” at Salamanca market in July 2018.

I am amazing how far ‘Revisited” has come since changing direction and becoming a “One person band” at Salamanca market.

I have expanded my work to include recycling, upcycling industrial rubber off cuts, industrial ‘O “rings (washers), rubber household items, vinyl tiles, bicycle inner tubes. Also I create jewellery from unusual items including, erasers, safety and knitting pins, hair bands, zippers, recycled plastic bags and hand coloured and interesting papers.
I hope you enjoy my “Revisited” Jewellery pieces as much as I enjoy creating them.
